Kanazah Ford-Spells Summerville High School Class of 2020

• Introduction

The Class of 2020 is having to graduate high school, make major life decisions, and deal with profound social pressures all during a global pandemic. This is a graduation, unlike any other. Many students had to celebrate this new phase in their life in a way different from what they already planned. Kanazah Spells is of the class 2020 of Summerville High School. Established in 1960, Summerville High School has trained students for about 60 years, but this might be the first time they’ve had to handle graduation this way. I took some graduation pictures of Kanazah and spoke to her about life in school and her future plans. She had the following to say:

• What Is Your Best Memory of Summerville High?

Hmmm. What would I say my best memory was? Well, when I think of it, I’d say it was the day I walked into my Government class, saw a substitute teacher, and walked right back out. I’m ready to leave the reason why that happened to everyone’s best imagination lol.

• What Are You Passionate About?

I’d call myself a sneakerhead to be honest. I am so very passionate about sneakers. My Jordans is the one possession that I love the most. Nothing tops high-quality performance shoes when it comes to these. Kanazah is so passionate about Jordans that I’m pretty sure if you put a pair of Jordans in front of her, she can tell you what brand and number they are.

• What Are Your Plans for After Graduation?

After graduating from high school, I plan on attending Winthrop University in the fall. Winthrop University is a high-quality college that you can attend at a good price. It is not a typical party school, but its overall average net price combined with high-quality education results in good value for the money compared to other colleges and universities in South Carolina.

I’ll be going for the Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine at Winthrop University. It’s a degree that will prepare me for graduate study in athletic training, physical therapy, physician assistant, and medicine. I could use it to later gain clinical experience with injury prevention, recognition and immediate care, rehabilitation, health care management, and professional development in a sports medicine environment. That embodies what I want to do with my future perfectly.

• Any Encouraging Words for Upcoming Students?

I’d say, be yourself. Don’t let yourself get distracted and stay on top of your work. Also, do your best to enjoy the experience of high school while it lasts. It’s not something you’ll get to do more than once in your lifetime.

• How Did I Do at Kanazah’s Shoot?

You already know that I love graduation shoots because they give me an opportunity to meet many bright, young, and rising talents. They capture a moment in these young one’s lives that they looked forward to for a long time. I love the way that I can get to tell their various stories through these pictures.

We did Kanazah’s session in Charleston, South Carolina, at Riverfront Park Downtown. It’s a beautiful park with boardwalks, large grassy areas, and harbor views that provide a laid-back scenery that worked beautifully for Kanazah’s shoot. The shoot itself was great, and we had lots of fun capturing, and the pictures turned out quite lovely too. I wish Kanazah all the best now and in her future endeavors.
