You can never overstate the importance of your wedding photography. The decorations will be taken down, your invites will be discarded and the wedding cake will be eaten. But your wedding photos, they’ll keep the memory of that day fresh in your mind. For many years to come, you will use them to reminisce and show them to friends and family over and over again. This is where hiring the best photographer for your wedding comes in. It is not something to be taken lightly. Not only do you have to make sure that you’ve hired the right photographer, you have to make sure that you’ve vetted them properly. My name is Delmar Ray and I’m the man behind Ray Photography. I have a wealth of experience when it comes to photography and in the following paragraphs, I’ll be taking you through how to get the photographer that is right for you. Read on to get started.
- First, You Have to Know the Following Information
Before you get started on your search for the right wedding photographer you have to make sure you’re ready yourself. Factors like your budget, the photography style you’re looking for and what you’d want in your photographer are a good place to start. By knowing all of these, you can then easily eliminate the photographers that you won’t need when doing your selection. If you have these ready then move to the next.
- Secondly, Do the Search
Search in wedding blogs, check on social media and go through websites like mine. If you have bridal shows holding in your area, you’ll most likely find photographers there so be sure to attend. You can then use the samples and portfolios that they come with, to narrow down the number of photographers you’ve chosen. Tips from friends who got married recently and have pictures that you like can come in handy too.
- Next Review Portfolios
Portfolios are how you get to see the work that the photographer has done. While looking, you can gauge their weak and strong points, how they edit, as well as decide the concepts for photography that you want at your wedding. My portfolio is the 4th menu from the left on my website and there you can see the amazing wedding photos that I’ve done when you click on "Wedding" from the drop-down menu. Reviewing portfolios is one of the personal parts of selecting your wedding photographer so make sure to do it right.
- Then Look at Their Work Reviews
Look for patterns. No one can please everyone all the time, but if the reviews are all saying something not good, then maybe you should look at another photographer. Good reviews mean good service. You can find the reviews for my work when you click the “Kind Words” menu on my website. It’s the second from the right.
- Interview Them
When you’ve further narrowed down the number of photographers you have to the final few, go ahead and set up an interview with them. Ask as many questions as you have about their work and how it relates to your wedding. Ask about their process, their experience, and their prices. You can also ask about rights when it comes to your pictures. I have worked in the photography industry for quite a while. I started with capturing my father, a great musician, while on his shows and have just never stopped because it is something I enjoy doing. Feel free to contact me concerning an interview.
- Give Them A Test Run
A test run is a great way to get a sneak peek into how your wedding day will look. It will show you how well you and your wedding photographer get along. You’ll know if you both vibe and your photographer can also get a hang of how you’d want your wedding day captured. An engagement photo session is a great way to do a test run. Engagement photo sessions are also part of the services that I render and I’d be glad to start with that.
- And Finally, Hire Them
When you do find a wedding photographer whose packages align with your needs, whom you get along with, whose style matches what you are looking for in your wedding, and who has great reviews, then, of course, you should hire them! The right photographer knows how to make you and your partner shine in front of the camera and you won’t regret it!
